DIY : Banana face mask

Summer heat can be exhausting. After a day out in the sun, I usually just want to lay down and get a nap. But I’ve noticed my skin being tired as well. The mixture of sun and salt dries out my skin. I’m not a fan of putting lots of cream on my face, because then it feels oily. I know, decide what you want right? I’ve found a recipe that was quite helpful to me and might help you as well. DSC_04341

It felt good the minute I put it on. Soooo refreshing ! I guess you didn’t come here to read about my complains and rambling, so I’ll just get to it.
You will need:
1 ripe banana
juice of a lemon
1 tbsp honey

How to do: Mash the banana with a fork, add the lemon juice and honey and mix it all together. Put it on your face and leave it there for about 15 minutes. Rinse with cold water.
Bananas are good moisturizers, known for the big amount of potassium, Vitamin E and C, they contain. They all provide a glowing skin.
Lemons are rich in Vitamin C which helps brighten and lighten the skin. Also good at removing blackheads.
Honey is a good moisturizer as well, antioxidant and it slows down the effects of aging. It’s said to lighten the skin as well and decreases the scars and increases the healing regeneration.
My skin felt great when I rinsed the face mask off. I think I’ll be doing it more frequently from now on. It just feels so good when you know what you’re putting on your skin. So natural and made of things that you can find in a kitchen.
DISCLAIMER : This might not work with everyone as people have different types of skin. If you are allergic to any of these ingredients, DO NOT do it. I am no professional, just an amateur who decided to try this out. There shouldn’t be problems with it, but better be safe than sorry.

Berry&peach popsicles

Summer is officially here ! Besides all the fun and excitement that comes with it there is something that many people complain about. Heat. And sweat. Lots and lots of sweat. It is so hot at the moment in Slovenia, but it’s not even July yet. The temperatures are so high that even my dog who usually sleeps on the sun all day, hides under the bed where it’s nice cold. I went out for just a day and got sunburnt. That was before summer even officially began. Oh, well what can you do?
DSC_0158 1
I haven’t posted in a while, so I thought I’d make it up to you with something yummy. And refreshing. To help you bear the heat, I have a popsicle recipe for you. I know doing lots of stuff in this kind of weather is exhausting and unnecessary. But don’t worry, these are super easy and super quick to make.

All you need is fruit. I used a small bowl of berries (blueberries, raspberries, cherries) and a bowl of sliced peaches.DSC_0150 1DSC_0148 1DSC_0137 1DSC_0134 1
My berries were frozen, but it’s okay to use fresh ones as well. Then I mixed everything together in a blender to get a smoothie.DSC_0170 1DSC_0172
I’ve put the mixture into popsicle containers that you can buy basically everywhere and are very inexpensive. If you don’t have these, you can still use an empty yoghurt cup and put a spoon in so it serves you as a stick.

You put that in the freezer for about an hour and voila. DSC_0306 1DSC_0312 1
Yummy, refreshing, easy, quick and fun to do ! You can pick whichever fruit you like. The possibilities are endless. Enjoy !

Oh, and if you make too much, you can just drink the rest or make a really cute smoothie -bowl-healthy-breakfast as you can see below.

I hope this helps you not to melt down 😉 Have fun !

DIY: My Adventure Book

Have you seen Up ? It’s an animated movie from 2009. You know, the one with a man who tied up 500 balloons on his house so it was able to fly. And then there was the scene of Carl holding the Adventure Book. So beautiful. *wipes a tear* If you have no idea what I’m talking about, go see it. It’s one of my favourite animations.

As you can tell from the title of this post I’ll be sharing with you how I did my own Adventure Book. I’ll actually give it away as a gift which I think is such a great idea. Whether you like that or just want to make one for yourself go ahead and try it. I had so much fun doing it ! I think I’ll actually do myself one as well.

Things you’ll need: IMG_4660.JPG

If I write everything down again:

  • paper with 2 holes (I took a bit thicker paper (A4) and made 2 holes with hole puncher)
  • fabric (the smallest piece is hessian fabric, other two just normal red & brown )
  • glue gun
  • a pencil
  • a ruler
  • a clip (I took this one from an old folder, but binder rings would work great as well)
  • a cutting knife
  • scissors
  • foam rubber
  • cardboard (for the covers, you can also use shoe boxes, wood, etc.)

Firstly, I searched for “Adventure Book” on Google, took a piece of paper and trimmed the letters on a piece of paper.IMG_4595

I’ve cut “M” out, trimmed it again on foam rubber and cut that out as well.

It took a while, so I tried to figure out a way on how to do it quicker. I ended up placing the piece of paper on foam rubber and followed the drawn lines with pressing a pencil really hard.img_4607.jpg

Once you have the letters done, you can start working on the covers. Place the cardboard on fabric and trim it. Make sure to leave about 2 cm on each side.

Do the same with the brown fabric. This time leave 2 cm space on the inner side of the cardboard as this goes on the inside of the book. This were the measurements I had for one side of the cardboard. The full length of it was 38.5 cm, but leaving 2 cm on each side equals 34.5. I hope that makes sense. 1.jpgIMG_4615.JPG

Glue time ! Firstly, the inner part aka brown fabric.IMG_4617Then the red one :IMG_4618IMG_4628Edges can be quite tricky. This is the method I used to glue them : IMG_4682.JPG

Congrats ! You have your covers covered !

It’s time to add pages. You’ll have to glue the clip first.

Then you add paper and secure it.

The final step is decorating the cover. You can just glue the letters on top or add hessian fabric like I did.

This is how it would look like if I hadn’t added the fabric. img_4632.jpg

And this is once I did. img_4640.jpgimg_4642.jpgimg_4645.jpg

That’s it ! Not that hard, huh ? I’d like to point out that there are million ways on doing it. You could use different supplies. Maybe just stick some letters to the binder or a notebook and skip the “gluing the fabric” part. You could draw the letters instead of cutting them out, etc. Art is supposed to be fun. So be creative, go crazy ! Don’t worry if it doesn’t turn out exactly the way you want it to. That’s how art works. I like how mine turned out, even though some details aren’t perfect and you can see some glue on the edges. But hey, I’ll know for the next time !

Send me pictures if you decide to make it and comment below what you think about the movie !

Mini pies for Mother’s Day

Mum is one of the first words you say as a child. She’s one of the first people who holds you. Taking care of you and loving you unconditionally are just two of the things mums are good at. Always worrying and wishing you the best. I’m really happy that we have a day dedicated to them. It’s meant for saying thank you for all the things they do for us. But you shouldn’t take that for granted. And Mother’s Day shouldn’t be the only day you think about her and tell her you love her.

Nothing can repay mums for doing their jobs. They don’t want expensive gifts, but some time with you. Especially if you’re all grown up, possibly having family on your own. Just the smallest things can make them happy, because they know you didn’t forget.

I usually make a special lunch for my mum when she gets home from work and do some things instead of her. I almost always bring her flowers and maybe give something more if I get an idea. This year I decided to bake something. I’ve made mini pies filled with forest fruit. It’s a great last-minute idea, so I decided to share the recipe with you.

Mini piesIMG_4250

First of all you have to make a dough for your pie. I made it like so:

300 g flour
200 g butter
100 g sugar
pinch of salt

You have to slice butter into tiny cubes and then mix everything together, using your hands. If the dough is to try, you can add a few drops of cold water. And there you have it.

Once you have your dough ready, you have to roll it out. Then take a cup, jar, glass or any other “bowl-type-of-thing” and cut out circles. ONWO7128.jpg

Take muffin tray, apply some oil and baking paper on. If you put it in a way that I did it (picture below) it would be much easier to take everything out, once baked. Then just place that circles inside so you create little cups.img_4195.jpgimg_4199-e1490386505557.jpg

Next, prepare your fruit. As I already mentioned, I used forest fruit. I took some wild strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. We had some in the freezer so I put everything on a saucepan and heat it up a bit. Other kinds of fruit would work too.Even jam, maybe. You can take the pie recipe you usually do and do everything as you’d normally do. Just the end result will be different. You’ll get it in a different shape than normally.

Put the “sauce” into your cups. Take the leftover dough and decorate the top. You can leave it the way it is, without adding anything or do the typical stripes pattern.

Last thing to do is place the baking tray into the oven. You have to preheat it to 180 °C ( about 350 F) and bake it for about 30 minutes.

That’s it ! Sprinkle some powdered sugar on top, add vanilla ice cream and berries and there you go.IMG_4253

I’m not a professional and I can’t guarantee you that your pies will look perfect. Feel free to change the recipe completely or add something on your own. Be creative ! Let me know if you decide to make them for Mother’s Day or any other day and how it went. If you do make them for your mum, drop me a comment on her reaction !

Enjoy !

19 wrapping hacks

I think we all agree that wrapping can be super exciting and fun but also stressful. There are so many gifts to wrap and sometimes you don’t even have all the supplies you need. I hope you find those helpful !

1. If you have many little gifts for someone you can put them in a clear box like this one. Believe it or not it’s actually an empty Ferrero Rocher box ( chocolate ). You can of course wrap it so you can’t see what’s inside.

2. Put a bit of tape on the end of your ribbon. It will keep it in place and prevent it from unrolling.

3. Put your gifts in a mason jar.

4. Use washi tape to decorate a plain wrapping paper.

5. Scrub the ribbon with scissors so it gets curly.

6. Use a colored tape instead of name tags.

7. Use a gift bag instead of the box and tape it so they can’t see the inside.

8. Wrap your gifts in a newspaper.

9. Put some kind of accessories on your gifts instead of good old ribbons.

10. Combine two different patterns to create more interesting look (wow sounds like a fashion advice).

11. Put a hair band on the wrapping paper to stop it from unwrapping.

12. Put things that you can find in nature such as pine cones on the wrap to make it unique.

13. If you don’t have a box, use an old packaging and put things inside. It could also be a great prank. Imagine thinking you got a coffee for Christmas but end up getting a concert ticket hidden inside.

14. Put beauty items in a makeup bag. Packaging which is also a great gift ? Um, yes !

15. Use wool instead of ribbon.

16. Use fabric instead of paper. (This is not the best example).

17. Make your gifts look like a candy. Especially if they have a round shape.

18. Use a regular paper to wrap. Take a sponge and put it in the paint and then place it all over it.

19. Use a nice shoe box to put your gifts in.

14 Christmas printables

I am not that good at designing. I have ideas but not really the talent to do it. I decided to try it anyways and created 14 Christmas printables for this year. You can put them on your wall as a cute little wall art or give them away. I know they aren’t the best you’ve ever seen but I tried. If you decide to print out any of these, click on “print” below the image you want. I hope you like them !

9 gift ideas for Christmas

I know how hard it can be, to pick gifts for your family and friends. There’s always at least one person you don’t know what to get. And you don’t want to buy them mugs. I tried to be creative for this blog post, but I’m kind of out of ideas as well. But hey, maybe something inspires you !

  1. A book
Book can be a great gift. Share your favourite or something you know they’ll like. It can be a classic, comedy, autobiography, etc. Or maybe buy them a book of recipes or quotes.
  2. A journal
If person you’re picking gift for likes to write or owns a blog he/she’ll love this. Simple plain notebook can be enough. You can also get them the ones with activities. Such as Wreck this journal or the ones with questions that the person answers every day.
  3. A scrapbook
This can be a great gift for people who like sharing their memories and looking trough old photo albums. You can either buy them one so they’ll have to fill it in or make one and give it away. Imagine looking trough pictures capturing your favourite memories together. I’d love that !
  4. A jar
No, not pickles. Not even marmalade. But little notes. Fill in the jar with notes of different colour. For example: white ones are quotes, yelow-everyday motivation, green-your favourite memories together, red-reasons why you love this person, etc. You can pick just one “category” and make a jar full of those.
  5. Gift cards
You can’t go wrong with gift cards. Knowing just a bit about their shopping habits is enough.
  6. Clothes
As a kid I was quite disappointed if I got clothes. I wanted toys. But now it all changed. Socks ? Thank you ! I don’t know where they went the ones you gave me last year.
  7. Room decor
Why not ? Everybody likes having nice, tidy home with beautiful design.
  8. A movie
The one you both love / first saw together. Or some that you know they’re obsessed with or would like to see.
  9. A Polaroid camera
This one is the most expensive of them all. But just imagine capturing the opening of all of those great Christmas gifts !

4 Christmas room decor ideas

Have you decorated your room yet ? If not, I hope it’s because you ran out of ideas. If so, keep reading. If not, go decorate your room. I hope you get the sarcasm. Maybe I should stop being funny. Okay, let’s just start this blog post.

Wooden star

You will need :
wooden sticks

Place the wooden sticks in a shape of a star. Tie up every “corner” of the star using the wool. You can tie it up however you want. This is how I did mine : twxz6996

I’ve repeated these steps many times so it really sticks together. And there you have it ! You can hang the star on your wall, door, etc. dozy0588

Toothpick stars

This one is very similar to the previous one.

You will need:

Instead of tying up the edges, glue them. Like so :cgmc6649

And there you have it. You can put them on a string and hang them on your wall, use them as an ornament, place them on a gift, etc.img_1731

You will need:

Okay, this one is the most random DIY ever but it turned out cute, so why not. I just glued three cones together and they kind of remind me of Christmas tress. Maybe I should put a little star on top of each one.

I used glue gun to stick them together. I put just glue on one to make it look like little rain drops. It turned out so adorable ! It reflects colours and it’s just great. img_2293img_2294

Joy sign

You will need :
cardboard letters

I actually did the letters myself using old shoe boxes. You can buy these letters everywhere and they don’t cost a lot. I think bought ones are made out of wood, but I’m not sure.img_2152

Anyways, all you have to do is wrap the letters in fabric. Try to find a way on how to do it ( wow what a great tutorial). Honestly, I have no idea how I did it myself. I just glued everything together and it came out the way it did. img_2288I didn’t expect it would look so pretty. I’m actually quite proud of myself.

This is how it looks all together.

Let me know which one you like best in the comments !

Valentine’s Day snacks

No matter how are you going to spend Valentine’s Day you got to have some snacks. Invite a friend, your bae or just eat them on your own. Make it a gift from you to you. At least that’s what I do (#teamsingle) ;).

1. Rice crispy hearts
You will need rice crispy and chocolate. Yes, that’s it.
Cut out the hearts.

Melt some chocolate and put it on the hearts. Don’t forget to decorate !

2. Pink cup

I have no idea how to name this one. The ideas itself is as random as the name.

You will need some strawberry greek yoghurt, oats and banana.10961886_762625217140107_1897155283_n10979414_762625227140106_1524561631_n

Place the yoghurt at the bottom of the glass. Put a layer of oats and chopped bananas on top. Fill it with the rest of the yoghurt.

3. Funfetti mug cake

I’ve posted a recipe for this one yesterday. I’ve decorated it with little sweet stars. I would replace it with heart shaped sprinkles, but I didn’t have any. The choice is yours 🙂

Let me know how it went if you decide to make any of these. And don’t worry if you’re spending this day alone. You’re not the only one 😉
